PENTECOST PRAYERS

PENTECOST PRAYERSPENTECOST PRAYER

THOUGHTS AROUND THE PRAYER POINTS

  1. PRAYER FOR UNITY

Acts 2:1

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

In our discussions it became clear that the Holy Spirit had prioritized the atmosphere of unity among those who had been given the instruction to wait in Jerusalem for the great outpouring.   Acts1:8

At this time of many divisions among us fostered by the evils of racism, it would be a great testimony to see the true church reaching out to one another beyond boundaries of race.

  1. while the leader of this prayer point is at liberty to mention in prayer other  things that may be part of the divisive strategy of the enemy among us – the race one remains a critical one among us.

It is also abundantly clear that the ministry of conciliation is NOT a government program but a gift / responsibility of the born again believers / ministers

2 Corinthians 5:18-19

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and GAVE US THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And HE HAS COMMITTED TO US THE MESSAGE OF RECONCILIATION.

John 17:11

I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, SO THAT THEY MAY BE ONE AS WE ARE ONE.

  1.     PRAYER FOR A FRESH OUTPOURING OF THE SPIRIT

Just as HE came on the day of PENTECOST

Acts 2:4

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

And subsequently on the day when they were praying, threatened by the Jewish leaders

Acts 4:21

After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened…..

Acts 4:23-24

On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them…..

Acts 4:31

AFTER THEY PRAYED, the place where they were meeting was shaken. AND THEY WERE ALL FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT  and spoke the word of God boldly.

  1.   PRAY FOR THE RETURN OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD AND AN ATTITUDE OF NON-COMPROMISE

Acts 2:5

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.

Queenstown has been plagued by a spirit of compromise that seeks to weaken the church and the testimony of its leaders to the community.   Pray that the church and its leaders may return to an unwavering commitment to Holiness and purity in their lifestyle and leadership roles.

  1.    PRAY FOR REVIVAL

Acts 2:6-11

WHEN THEY HEARD THE SOUND,  a CROWD CAME TOGETHER in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—WE HEAR THEM DECLARING THE WONDERS OF GOS IN OUR OWN TONGUES!”

  • There will be a sound.
  • Let the crowds come together – no more empty churches and poorly attended gatherings
  • Let the people “hear us”
  • Let there be a clear declaration of the Gospel
  • Let the ” true wonders ” of GOD / proper testimonies be heard
  • “In our own tongues” – that the church may be relevant to all groups.  Youth, the poor, the rich, the sports people, government officials etc.

  1. PRAY FOR THE UPCOMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

Proverbs 29:2AMP

When the [uncompromisingly] righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked man rules, the people groan and sigh.

Could the relentless unrest and many protests be an indicator?   If so, may the LORD remember us with GOD-fearing, competent and compassionate representatives.

MAY THE LORD UPROOT AND SPARE US FROM THE FOLLOWING KIND OF LEADERS

5.1.   THE CONFUSED LEADERS

Isaiah 5:20

Woe to those who call evil good

and good evil,

who put darkness for light

and light for darkness,

who put bitter for sweet

and sweet for bitter.

5.2.   THE DRUNK LEADERS

Isaiah 5:22

Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine

and champions at mixing drinks,

Proverbs 31:4-5

It is not for kings, Lemuel—

it is not for kings to drink wine,

not for rulers to crave beer,

lest they drink and forget what has been decreed,

and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

Isaiah 56:12

“Come,” each one cries, “let me get wine!

Let us drink our fill of beer!

And tomorrow will be like today,

or even far better.”

5.3.   LEADERS WHO IGNORE GOOD ADVICE

Isaiah 5:21

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes

and clever in their own sight.

Ecclesiastes 4:13

It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice.

5.4. LEADERS WHO INTERFERE WITH THE INTENTION TO DEFEAT THE ENDS OF JUSTICE

Isaiah 5:23

who acquit the guilty for a bribe,

but deny justice to the innocent.

5.5.   LEADERS WHO ARE APPETITE DRIVEN

Isaiah 56:11

They are (like) dogs with mighty appetites;

they never have enough.

They are shepherds who lack understanding;

they all turn to their own way,

they seek their own gain.

SO WHAT SHOULD THE RESULTS BE?

Psalms 109:8

May his days be few;

may another take his place of leadership.

  1.   PRAYER FOR THE NATION

Psalms 33:12-19

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,

the people he chose for his inheritance.

From heaven the Lord looks down

and sees all mankind;

from his dwelling place he watches

all who live on earth—

he who forms the hearts of all,

who CONSIDERS EVERYTHING THEY DO.

No king is saved by the size of his army;

no warrior escapes by his great strength.

A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;

despite all its great strength it cannot save.

But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,

on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

to deliver them from death

and keep them alive in famine.

  • May Jehovah be our GOD once again – in the face of many alters
  • GOD IS INTERESTED – HE looks down and sees and watches all mankind
  • All earthly activity is under GOD’S scrutiny – “HE considers all they do”
  • Military might is never enough – arms deals will always be a nagging burden
  • Specific focus is given to those who honor HIM – the results being sustenance and survival.

Proverbs 14:34 NIV

Righteousness exalts a nation,

but sin condemns any people.

Proverbs 14:34 AMP

Uprightness and right standing with God (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) elevate a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

May righteousness rise again.

May the sins of our leaders NOT be counted on us.
