THE GIFT OF GIVING

FAST FACTS FROM 2Cor 9

1.    GIVING TRIGGERS SOME FORM OF REWARD

2 Corinthians 9:6
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Note that all in this passage are givers, some sparingly, others generously.  But all are givers and none is left out of the reaping pleasure.  YOU ALWAYS GET SOMETHING OUT ….. not like our famous insurer…  The difference is in the scale as determined by the measure used in giving.
May none of us be left outside the pleasure of seeing returns from seeds sown.
May the spirit of generosity outclass every consideration of the tight budgets

2.   IT’S VALUE BEFORE GOD IS DETERMINED BY ATTITUDE

2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Meaning we don’t just give because we must, but the attitude adjustment happens when the revelation hits and an awareness of the multifaceted impact of this act on all three involved is heightened.  GOD, you the giver and the one who ultimately receives your gift.

3.   GIVING ALIGNS US TO THE ULTIMATE DIVINE ENABLEMENT

2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

In Christ the ability to be or do anything good is attributed to an invisible yet strong enabling force called Grace.   It is the one thing we pray for, desire and align ourselves to receive.    Once Grace is evident and abundant,  no mountain’s too high, no valley too low.  There’s nothing we cannot achieve, there’s hardly any inconvenience  we cannot endure as we take strides towards our destiny assignments.

4.   GIVING IS AN EXIBIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

2 Corinthians 9:9-10
As it is written:
“He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.”
Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,

While it is known that NOT all generosity springs from pure motives it is nonetheless true that WHEREVER THERE IS LOVE AND RIGHTEOUS GIVING WILL BE ABUNDANT.

Psalms 37:25-26
I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
They are ALWAYS GENEROUS and lend freely;
their children will be a blessing.

5.   GIVING IS A PROMOTER

2 Corinthians 9:10
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.

In life there are two levels of living before GOD.  The bread eaters and the seed sowers.    All the living start off as bread eaters, that simply means we have need for constant daily supplies and GOD is faithful ever desiring to supply our daily bread.
But seed sowers are of a different class!   Their focus is not the belly but the future.   Not instant gratification but to make a difference in the lives of others.

6.    GIVING FORTIFIES THE CIRCLE OF BLISSFUL EXISTENCE

 2 Corinthians 9:11
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

While others talk of the vicious circle of poverty, where things keep getting complicated as a result of lack, it is encouraging to discover there is a different kind of circle where the giver does not only get back in time what they temporarily parted with out of love and consideration for others but they get back more in quantities and kind.    Where money comes back as more money plus opportunities to do what even money could not do.

7.    GIVING INSPIRES VARIOUS EXPRESSIONS OF HEARTFELT GRATITUDE

2 Corinthians 9:12
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

Imagine a needy child praying to GOD saying, ” if you help me with my fees LORD, I’ll serve you for the rest of my days.”   Or a hungry person crying “LORD, please help and I will return to you and be as helpful as I possibly can in your work.”

8.   GIVING IS PROOF OF OBEDIENCE

 2 Corinthians 9:13
Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.

Often people desire to do good but when the means to do so reach their hands, other competing interests   such as personal needs tend to quickly swallow their seed and overwhelm the desire to put others first.   It takes obedience to give to others in service to GOD even before our very own screaming needs and desires.

9.   GIVING INSPIRERS EFFECTIVE HEARTFELT PRAYERS.

2 Corinthians 9:14
And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.

James 5:16b AMP
The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

Do you want GOD to raise prayer power to your advantage at your point of need, be a generous giver.    A woman died in the book of Acts.  And the tears that drew help and raised her back to life were inspired by the generosity that stemmed from her handiwork.

 Acts 9:36-41
There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas). She was ALWAYS DOING KIND THINGS   for others and helping the poor. About this time she became ill and died. Her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room. But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him, “Please come as soon as possible!”

So Peter returned with them; and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them. But Peter asked them all to leave the room; then he knelt and prayed. Turning to the body he said, “Get up, Tabitha.” And she opened her eyes! When she saw Peter, she sat up! He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then he called in the widows and all the believers, and he presented her to them alive.

10.   GIVING IS ITSELF A GIFT

2 Corinthians 9:15
Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

When your heart begins to muse on ways to Bless others and help in some way, the gift of giving is stirring inside.  Act with courage.
When personal considerations shout “me first!” Answer back with this assurance, “better days are just ahead”

Givers gain!  No giver will be left behind

Proverbs 11:25
A generous person will prosper;
whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
