HOW NOT TO BE DETERRED

how-not-to-be-intimidated
1.   HAVE A FRESH AND CORRECT GRASP OF COVENANT.

Judges 2:1-2

Then the Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: “I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you. And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?

From the Angel’s report, Israel’s weaknesses came from

1.1.   a faulty or inferior understanding of the covenant
1.2.   Alliances with what they saw as opposed to the unseen
1.3.   A forgotten testimony of GOD’S POWER

2.   EVERY TIME ISRAEL’S PICTURE / VIEW OF GOD DIMINISHED THEY FALTERED

Judges 2:7

So the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord which He had done for Israel.

2.1.   POOR CONNECTION TO RICH HISTORY / TESTIMONY

Judges 2:10

When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.

2.2.  SUCCUMBED TO SURROUNDING INFLUENCES

Judges 2:11-12

Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals; and they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among THE gods OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE ALL AROUND THEM, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the Lord to anger.

2.3.  FORFEITED THEIR BEST DEFENCE AND SUPPLIES

Psalms 81:10-16

I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of Egypt.
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
“But my people would not listen to me;
Israel would not submit to me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts
to follow their own devices.
“If my people would only listen to me,
if Israel would only follow my ways,
how quickly I would subdue their enemies
and turn my hand against their foes!
Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,
and their punishment would last forever.
But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;
with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

3.   TEARS DON’T ALWAYS BRING BACK LOST OPPORTUNITIES

Judges 2:4

So it was, when the Angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voices and wept.
