AS THE WORLD CELEBRATES ST. VALENTINE’S DAY
We are reminded of the greatest calling of all. A calling that transcends all cultural dispositions, ethnic backgrounds, religious persuasions, economic status and their intrinsic inhibitions. The call is by our LORD GOD and Savior. It is A CALL TO LOVE. Most people do sense that there’s a hidden treasure in connecting, but equally so, the enemy of everything good works tirelessly to distort and defile what is actually so sacred.
Scripture has not left us in some grey area as far as love is concerned!
1. WE ARE CALLED TO A LOVE THAT IS SINCERE
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
2. WE ARE CALLED TO A LOVE THAT’S PURE
2 Corinthians 6:6
in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love;
3. TO A LOVE THAT DOES NOT TRAMPLE ON CONSCIENCE
1 Timothy 1:5
The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
In other words, what is contrary to a clear conscience cannot be of genuine Love.
4 TO A LOVE THAT ELEVATES OTHERS ABOVE SELF
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
5. TO A LOVE THAT MUST BE CONSCIOUSLY AND CONSTANTLY SERVICED
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
6. TO A LOVE THAT FULFILLS ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS
The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
7. TO A LOVE THAT DRIVES US TO SHARE THE ULTIMATE BLISS IN LIFE – SALVATION
2 Corinthians 5:14-15
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
8. TO A LOVE THAT STIFLES SELFISHNESS AND FOSTERS CARE AND HUMILITY
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.
9. TO A LOVE THAT CASTS OUT FEAR
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
NOW, HERE’S MY PRAYER FOR YOU:
I PRAY THAT YOU MY GROW STRONG IN GOD’S LOVE
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
I PRAY THAT YOUR REVELATION OF LOVE MAY BE REVOLUTIONARY
may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
I PRAY THAT ALL SELFISH AMBITION BE UPROOTED FROM YOU
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
I PRAY THAT YOU WILL BE A SYMBOL, AN EMBODIMENT AND AN EXTENSION OF CHRIST’S LOVE TO A NEEDY WORLD
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
