IN CELEBRATION OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE

IN CELEBRATION OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE

IN CELEBRATION OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE

THE FIRST COMMANDMENT

Exodus 20:2-5
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

Our GOD is never restrictive. To know the LORD is to experience Liberty.
Bondage was never GOD’S idea. The Ten Commandments were given just after the Egypt era.   The one thing firmly in GOD’S mind for Israel was to seal their new found freedom. To Loose them from Egypt and all of its influences and manifestations.

The first words man heard in the garden were a statement of liberty

Genesis 2:16
And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are FREE TO EAT  from any tree in the garden;

The rest was to protect and preserve that privilege

Genesis 2:17
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

If a person  came to an establishment built high on a hill, and found a parking spot at the verge of a cliff, and saw a notice that read:

NO PARKING BEYOND THIS POINT

You would not struggle to know there’s some functional and caring management around.
Anyone who would consider that a restriction has issues.   The reasonable would frown at the idea of removing the sign.
That inscription is for all intents and purposes an aid to the joy of living.  It cannot be a bone of contention among the sane. Any who would argue for its removal is void of both love and good judgement.

Israel was just coming out of Egypt. Their loving GOD knows well the  ‘cliffs of idolatry.’  The commands were in every way a precaution of love. Considering that:

1.   HUMANS BECOME MORE LIKE THEIR OBJECT OF WORSHIP

Psalms 115:8
They who make idols are like them; so are all who trust in and lean on them.

Psalms 135:18
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.

Those who bow before idols become like them. Those who bow before animals for mediation receive the spirit or characteristics of the animal they elevate with the high honor of mediation.

If this be true, and we know scripture cannot be broken; Those who use a goat for mediation and worship then get inhabited by the spirit / characteristics of a goat.   Smelly, stubborn, greedy.
Imagine the dilemma this poses to the applicants if the chairman of tender board and half his team are bound there!

If the honors of mediation are given to the chicken,  those who draw near to worship and seek counsel over the issues affecting their well being,  find themselves exposed to the innate nature and traits of a chicken. Small mindedness, always working backwards – slow or no progress and finally to be taken into some pot for cooking!

2.   IDOLATRY MAKES A MOCKERY OF A PEOPLE AND SHORTENS THEIR LIFE EXPECTANCY

Ezekiel 22:4
you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed and have become defiled by the idols you have made. YOU HAVE have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.

So, we know for sure that when GOD gave the first commandment, it was to preserve His people, made of His Likeness and image from becoming “like” the useless idols.  GOD’S ‘likeness’ in man could not be allowed to degenerate into the ‘likeness’ of idols.

So, serve the LORD and become more like Him!

2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
